FBA Wizard team member Gary shares some useful advice on how to easily check if an item is restricted or not on Amazon UK.
This is especially useful if you resell item through FBA…
…to prevent you from buying products that you aren’t allowed to list on Amazon.
Let’s start with this one, nice and simple, this is a toy in the Baby category. We want to check if we can sell this… we come down to the “sell on Amazon” button, we click, and this brings us to a screen that will normally tell you that you can sell your product.
You would fill in the information, submit your listing, and that would be good enough to know that you can sell your item.
We can use the “back” button there. Let’s take another example… a DVD. Now DVD’s aren’t in a “gated” or restricted category, but this particular one, Breaking Bad, if we go to sell on Amazon again it comes up with this box… which says “this product has other listing limitations”.
Basically listing limitations could be anything from product quality, product branding, consumer safety, or just that Amazon don’t want you to sell it. Either way you would have problems selling this, you would need to get those limitations lifted. Our recommendation would be to leave well alone if you’re getting ones that are coming up with this.
A couple more examples… branded Beats, again if you go to “sell on Amazon”, this is approval listing for the brand, you basically need to speak to the manufacturers to allow you to do that. So again that would be something to leave well alone.
Finally, let me just show you this one… Amazon do a lot now with “frustration-free packaging”, if we go to sell on Amazon, again its coming up with the approval, if we go back, and actually select the “standard packaging” and go to “sell on Amazon”, it let’s us sell that one.
So it will take the “standard packaging”, the “frustration-free packaging” it wouldn’t. But it’s not the same on everything. I certainly know some “frustration-free packaging” they do allow you to sell.
It’s a very, very simple method of checking. Our recommendation’s would be if it has any type of restriction on when you add to your inventory, don’t buy it as this can just be too much hassle.
Hope this helps, and I’ll speak to you soon.
